
He has been married for over 20 years to Dr, Joyce Holz, one of Houston’s leading gynecologic surgeons. He enjoys any outdoor activity, but particularly working in the yard, hiking, hunting and fishing.

Holz is known as the “doctor with boots” due to his sartorial quirk of constantly wearing boots with his scrub attire. Holz is honored yearly as a Super Doctor since 2007.ĭr. Holz is a board certified retina specialist and belongs to many esteemed ophthalmological societies like the American Society of Retina Specialists, the American Board of Ophthalmology, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Holz also treats pediatric patients through RVT's Houston Pediatric Retina clinic.ĭr. He has a special interest in diseases affecting the macula, in particular, epiretinal membrane, vitreomacular traction syndrome, macular hole and macular degeneration. Holz has been an active researcher with over 60 publications covering a wide range of retinal conditions. He has trained over 20 retina fellows and 75 ophthalmology residents to become retina specialists. During that time, he was promoted to Associate Professor of Ophthalmology with tenure and Chief of the Surgical Retina Service. Holz has been on the full-time faculty for the past 12 years. He was recruited back to the faculty at Baylor and Dr.

Holz practiced for three years at Retina and Vitreous Associates of Kentucky in Lexington.
